I guess my bud was right, something bends and it is not the springs weakening.

Actually, now that I know that it makes sense, as the springs themselves are pretty tight when you try to bend the mirror further beyond the loose flappiness.

Wow, pretty soon my mirrors will stop waving at me!  Joy!
