Interesting noise....

Driving home from an appointment late this morning, and I hear this
weird thumping noise from over my head. I'm thinking what the heck came
loose in the moon roof? So I get home and start fiddling around with the
moon roof....nothing is loose. Happen to glance forward a little more
and the rubber seal from around the windshield is popped out/up in the
middle. So that's what was flopping around!
Take into consideration that this car is ten years old, and still has
the original windshield in it (at least as far as I can tell). So the
best I can figure is two things. First, the rubber seal has probably
shrunken a little, so it doesn't fit as tight as it should. Second, the
windshield has "settled" downward, allowing for extra room for the seal.
My solution, clean the glass and the groove of the rubber, stick some
aquarium silicon sealant in the groove, push back into place, and stick
some folder paper in the gap to hold it in place until the sealant cures.
Might just have to "accidently" have a rock hit my windshield so that I
can get the darn thing replaced AND get a new rubber seal put on.
