I've been using dex cool for years. I wouldn't confuse misuse with
poor performance. The label clearly states that one must not mix dex
cool and conventional antifreeze. I use texaco and have always fully
flushed the cooling system of any of the green stuff. Furthermore, I
still swap the coolant out every 2 years. never any goo buildup.
Texaco's dex cool now says on the label that in addition to being
phospahte and silicate free, it's nitrate and borate free.
Without any other changes, on my current car, I swapped the very new
green stuff for dex cool and did notice the vehicle ran cooler. Done
many times.

Most big-name antifreeze companies are now producing lower-phosphate
or
phosphate-free antifreeze solutions that are just fine in any car,
especially if you replace it every 2 years or less. The Europeans did
kind
of lead the way, and the VW/Audi factory antifreezes of any particular
vintage are good, if expensive, examples. The same is true of gearbox
oils.
People who dutifully changed their original synthetic VW/Audi manual
tranny
fluid with readily available standard 80/90 gear lube at 60K in the
1980's
and 90's actually did their cars a dis-service.
