Sounds like a dying wheel bearing to me. A bad CV joint would make
a click-click-click sound, rather than a constant
whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
When you turn left, it lightens the load on the left side (more load on the
right), reducing pressure on the left-side bearing, making it less noisy.
