wheel bearing puller, part deux

The friend I am doing the bearing job for has a '95 Quattro 90. We are
doing the rear bearings. In the procedure a press is mentioned and a
generic bearing separator. Does the Schley tool take the place of the
press? Does this allow you to do the job without taking the 'Wheel
Bearing Housing' off the car?
And to the list: to correct a misconception I created. When I use the
BFH, I use it only to apply the force that a press would apply if I had
one. I always support the housing and use some sort of gizmo between the
BFH and the part being moved to distribute the force of the BFH.
Cheers
George
