[[V6-12v] smog test update ('93 V6 100)]

My inspection is due next month, and I wonder if I'm gonna' have a problem. My
check engine light has come on intermittently, and I think it is going to be
the cats. (The car is a '92, with 177k miles. Most likely, the cats are on
their tenth life...). I recently put in new O2 sensors, so that isn't the
problem...

I haven't yet pulled the codes. I'll do so just to make sure... before I spend
$675 for new cats. Nonetheless... three questions:

1. Does anyone have the part # for the plug-in tool to read the codes with? I
asked at the dealer... and they didn't have a clue (no surprise, eh?). He said
he'd need the part #. I know that I can probably just use a jumper wire, but
if I can get the part #, and the tool is cheap, I'd rather buy it... for
current and future use (i.e. sometime we'll be buying an A6q Avant).

2. Was $675 the cheapest price for these cats? How was discountconverter.com
to deal with? Quick delivery?

3. Can I assume that you installed them yourself? How tough was it?

Thanks.

Jim
