The best solution I have found for lifters is Wynn's tune up in a can, $4 for
two cans at Wal-Mart. Add it to the oil. It works pretty well, and I have
owned over a dozen VW/Audi products with hydraulic lifters (all noisy unitll
Wynn's)

I wouldn't use it in oil though I do add a quart every third fill-up
in my Ford F-250 w/6.9 litre diesel. The flashpoint of ATF is too low
(dont recall specific temps) for me to use it in my oil.
