Bad noise from turbo

Hello everyone,
I'm getting kind of scared. About a week ago a bad noise started. I thought it was lifter tick, but it got louder with more throttle and quieter with less. Today I got to poking around and it's comming from the turbo. It is a whistling-tick-bang sort of. I can't really describe it. It seems to get quiet once the engine is warmed up. The turbo shaft is still tight and the fan spins better than it did when I put it on. Could a gasket maybe be not sealing right? Maybe I have some bolts loose? I am getting tempted to just take it off and put back the normal exh. manifold for a wile but I don't wanna give up that easily. I am also getting tempted to ditch my intercooler and put water injection in instead to free up some room and let me put the front end back in.
