4kq clutch job questions

My '84 4kq may be due for a clutch job in the not-too-distant future.
I've already searched the archives and gathered some valuable
information.

My two questions for the group are 1. does the pressure plate need to be
replaced also, or just the clutch disc?  2. Do I need the special tool
to install the drive shaft "gaskets"?  I noticed that
audiquattroparts.com offers a special tool rental to do the DS gaskets
and I'm just wondering if it's really needed.

I'm guessing the exhaust downpipe will need to be removed, and I'm also
guessing that the bolts holding it on are more than a little rusted in
place.  Any tips or tricks from those who've BTDT?
