I just had the same problem on my 90 200tq. The X-Cap under the damper
hose blew the original o-ring, I ordered a 'bolt and seal kit' from
discount import parts and it did not include the X-Cap o-rings so I
bought some from a hydraulic supply shop like you did. Two days later
the o-ring blew again, and it split the o-ring down the middle. This
time I bit the bullet and bought the hydraulic pump seal kit from the
dealer for $35 and a new X-Cap for $10. There is a difference in
o-rings, the Audi o-rings are obviously proprietary. At the same time
I had the hydraulic shop rebuild all the power steering hoses because I
was so sick of leaks at that point. To rebuild all the hoses that
connect to the pump was only $30 from A1 coupling and hose. After a
week, so far so good. Scott at SJM Autotechnik sells the seal kit for
half price. Get a impact wrench and 3/4 drag link socket and smack that
X-Cap tight. The second time around I after getting everything back
together, I allowed the pump to heat up during leak testing and
re-tightened everything while it was hot. Make sure you bleed the air
out of the system by jacking the front of the car and working the
steering wheel and brakes with the cap off the reservoir. When the
bubbles disappear call it good. Good luck
PS, luckily in Portland we get enough rain to keep the oil washed off
the driveway :)
