Water temp

Hi All,
'97 A4Tq
I may be having a problem....recently my water temp is running colder than what was normal.  Always, up to now, the temp was exactly in the middle of the temp gauge, now, the temp stays at the 1/4 point(in between cold and halfway)  Yesterday I was stopped at a light and noticed the temp gauge at the halfway mark, but after I started to move I watched the temp move back towards the cold mark, it dropped to the 1/4 mark(between cold and halfway)  Water level is fine......  Weird
Any ideas of what's going on??
