91 200tq Trip Computer

I am not getting a reading for gas usage on my '91 200 TQ trip computer(this 
also affects instant mileage, miles to empty, and any other gas usage 
computations).  Is there a sensor that could be at fault?  What controls 
this reading anyway?  Something from the MAF, which I assume, then controls 
fuel flow?
