I had a similar problem on my 91 200 a few weeks back. The autocheck
system and the multi-digital display were both blank. In my case it was
the fuse (#14 I think? but check the manual) blown for an unknown
reason. That tells me that they at least share power. I'd start by
checking for power at the fuse. If it's okay there, then trace it (via
the bentley wiring diagram) to a pin on the IC. Check for power reaching
the IC connector to make sure there's not a break in the wire between
the IC and fuse box. Then, if that's okay, start looking for a break in
connection on the IC itself. It should be pretty easy to trace the path
of that connection.
To me it just seams too ironic for both displays to go bad at once, so I
would look for something that effects both of them.
Good luck--
