What oil to use in a TJ (sorry no Audi content)

Indeed,
Much like we would call a 5ktq a type 44, JEep uses letter
designations for their vehicles. The Original Wrangler was the
YJ, Jeep Cherokee the XJ, Jeep grand CHerokee the ZJ "I THINK",
but I cant seem to remember what the 2nd Generation wrangler
was.
But on to your question, I would stick with 10-30. There is
no reason to run 15-50 on that motor. Keep in mind that having
a synthetic does not "CHANGE" the viscosity of your oil. Syn's
to tend to flow better at lower temps, and dont break down as
fast at high temps, but a 30weight is still a 30weight. IF they
say to use 10-30, use 10-30. When your TJ has 100k+ miles on it
then you can consider switching to 15/50 if your burning through
that 10/30.
