Slow starting 5kT,

My '87 5kT takes some time to start when it has been sitting for more
than 10 minutes. I've measured all the CIS pressures according to the
Bentley, everything is fine, so I guess that rules out the injectors
or the check valve - or maybe not?
It will always start, but it'll take 4-5 seconds cranking, and then
sputter and cough a few seconds before it stabilizes. When warm, it
needs the same cranking time, but it won't cough.. I tried jumpering
the fuel pump relay to "prime" a few seconds before I started it, but
no difference. Outside temperature doesn't matter at all. Fault codes
checked - 4444.
Any good tips? It eventually drains the battery, and it's kinda
embarassing having to crank the car that long before it catches..
