Right, I ran without it for a while, but if you're
making more than stock HP, you probably want something
in there.  We also concluded that the support keeps
the engine from tilting upwards at full power.  I'm
still running mine with my huge FMIC, you just have to
chop the post off a few inches, stick the bushing back
on then move the bracket back.
