Kneale,
EITHER way you'll end up in traffic. It really depends upon which way you'l=
l approach the Connecticut shore. If you are coming from a northern
route (i.e. you can go east on I-84 instead of I-95), then the ferry will b=
e faster, but bear in mind, the ferry is QUITE expensive (somewhere around =
at LEAST $80 with a car the last I heard). If you have
to go north on I-95 to get to the end of CT to the ferry, the traffic will =
be nearly as bad as the Long Island Expressway route. Be prepared for LOTS =
of traffic in either case, at the NYC end of your travel. Good thing about =
the L.I.E. route at this time is the tourist season in the
Hamptons and Montauk is over, so the traffic to the end of the island
should be comparatively light. This is good, as it's a single lane in
either direction from the Hamptons all the way to Montauk. Good Luck and en=
joy, it should be gorgeous out there.

We're heading to Montauk for a niece's wedding.
One of the map services recommends going to Connecticut and taking a ferry
across Long Island Sound.
AAA says to drive through New York City to get to the Long Island
Expressway to get to Montauk.
Anybody got advice regarding which route will be easiest?
