Listers,
Looking for assistance on wipers for an '89 200Q.
Wipers will not work in any position except High.
They do NOT auto return to the rest spot. Tried
replacing the adjustable intermittent wiper relay with
a stock unit, it at least restored the wipers working
on High, which was unreliable at best with the adjustable
relay. In order to get the wipers to work in the High
position, I need to bring the lever up to the High detent,
then ever so slightly re-adjust the lever down until the
wipers start to operate. To shut things off, I can move
to ANY other position, and they'll stop, where-ever the
wipers happen to be, even in mid-wipe. I must manually
reset them to a reasonable rest position. Washers function,
"normally" (i.e. now totally independent of the wiper arms,
kinda like an old VW Rabbit actually) but the wipers no
longer activate with the spray. I had originally thought that
the combo switch (trip computer works, too, as do the
emergency flashers) had failed, but it has been suggested
that there may be a failure in the "return spot" of the wiper
motor itself. The problem is, I have no idea how to determine
which has failed, the motor, or the combo switch. Bentley
is NO help on this particular diagnosis, no electrical diagnosis
procedures for testing the motor. Anyone have an idea
how to tell which has failed, motor or combo switch?
TIA!
