Two things that come quickly to mind. 1) A vacuum malfunction,
usually due to old hoses either breaking, splitting, or becoming
detached from their nibs. 2) The diverter flap (door within the duct
work) is broken. There is a steel spring that attaches to a plastic
hook on the flap. The plastic hook usually breaks, leaving a
non-operating flap. See:

This is typically due to a broken wire in the door jamb.
Since it is a rear door, that is unlikely. But there is a
switch on the driver's door for that window, and that
wire goes to the driver's door jamb. Since the driver's
doo opens/closes a lot, it breaks wires. I'd look
there first. See

web site, then clock on the first search result)

As with the power window wires, there is the heating
element (wires) in the seat bottom and seat back.
These wires will break over time. The fix is to pull
back the upholstery, and a) replace the heating grid
or splice a thin wire into where you find a break.
There are other causes (relays, temp control sensors)
but this is a high probability. See:

(this is on the same page as the window fix)
