Vibrating Hand Brake T44

In my 89 200tq, my handbrake has begun to do a pulsating vibrating thing
that is more annoying than anything.  With the stereo on, you can't hear the
noise.  The car brakes fine, and the e-brake seems completely functional.  I
have not checked any of the brake components yet.  Does this sound like a
brake issue or something else, maybe the tranny, is causing the vibrating.
If I grab/stabalize the handbrake, the noise goes away.  Any ideas?
