SS braided brake flex lines are usually a teflon fluid line,
surrounded by a stainless steel braid, similar to our high
pressure fuel lines (i.e. to the injectors). The line itself
is simply the teflon, the braiding simply supports and protects
the line from direct impact. Braids are no different from hair
braids, i.e. dirt particles can work their way into the braid,
potentially abrading a hole in the teflon. In race apps, who
cares, no car runs lines for long enough for abrasion wear. On
the street, there is: more dirt, and longer running. NOW there
is a potential risk. When the fluid line weakens in rubber lines,
the hose bulges. It's obvious that replacement is needed, so long
as a visual inspection is performed. No such luck on SS lines, so
2 yr replacement is warrented. Some SS lines do have clear (so you
can show off!) plastic sheaths to protect against dirt intrusion,
however, there is still no warning of a bulging failing line. So,
2 yr replacement is still warranted.
