Going public with this reply...

The issue, as I understand it, was that DOT lights had to be aimed 
(hah!) using the nubs on the lenses and a special rig.  Euro lights are 
aimed by lighting up a wall in front of them and aligning the cutoffs 
appropriately.

My H4/H1 round lights on the coupe are still sold as "off road use" only.

I have had no trouble passing inspections.  Then again, I do bring a 
case of beer next door to the shop I use once in a while.  Neighbors 
being neighborly, you know?

In general, as long as your lights *work*, no one is going to make a fuss.
