Are the type 89's nimble?

So here's the deal. I have a horrible friend who eggs me on in my Audi affliction (and vice versa), who brought up a 1990 90Q for sale nearby.
I really don't need to be considering this car, but it's quite a good deal, and I'm thinking it might be worth a look-see.
I've not driven many type 89's so I don't have much experience with their ride and handling, or lack thereof. The one that I did drive was a 4cyl auto belonging to a friend, and laden with three other passengers.
So, are the 90q's from this vintage (this one should be a 20v), much less nimble and fun to drive than the 4000q's? I really love to hop back into the 86' 4kq with bilsteins, H&R's and sticky tires, and scoot around after a week of commuting in the 5ktq. The purchase of the 90q would require the sale of one 4kq to my brother, and the other to whomever due to driveway space issues, so I'd be without that feel. Can the 90q still provide that?
Thanks!
