Well, although this goes back to when I was lucky enough to have a 
discarded copy of the microfiche (for my coupe), I would say that the 
difference is being able to buy parts easily I might never even have 
thought of getting there.

I am also blessed with a non-nightmare local parts department.

So I still get all the "aftermarket" parts at the independent places, 
since they are *usually* cheaper (but not always!*).  But I have bought 
many varied and interesting parts new via the dealer.  In the case of 
any part that would be hard to describe, the FA is wonderful thing.

* new foglight lenses for my 90Q were interesting.  Could only get the 
right side at Atlantic, got the left via the dealer.  Price was almost 
identical.
