It seems clear you've never owned a BMW, known in the trade as "Bucks
Make'em Work". Far and away more expensive to repair than a 911, which
probably has the lowest incidence of repair of any high end car. I used to
have 4-5 of them apart at any given time in my shop, now we do about 1
engine every 5 years. They're phenomenally trouble free, all things
considered, and repairs are relatively less expensive than comparable cars
of the same vintage. We just scrapped a nice 325i for nothing more than a
clutch and a noisy tranny, the total of which was easily twice the market
value of the car, and exceeded the cost of similar work on a 911. John
