Is the battery different in diesel?

IIRC, the diesel battery is located in the engine bay under the intake plenum. It's been a year and a half since I wrenched on one in a Pull-A-Part, but I'm pretty sure because I remember having to _remove the battery_ to get to the exhaust manifold. This is in a car that had been sitting in this scrapyard for at least 3 years...
