Checking codes on 89 100Q

One note of clarification: all 89-91 models equipped with I-5 motors (except
for NA 20V) are NG motors. These models also have diagnostic connectors
mounted below the drivers side dash. If these are there, the diagnostic
codes are initiated and also read there with a LED tester. There is a
specific note in the 1989 Model Change book that states that the wiring to
the fuse in the fuel pump is not connected. In my Mom's '89 100 Avant, the
Check Engine Light was not even installed. The bulb socket and harness was
still present, though tied back against the dash wiring and the display had
just a blanking plate. Fortunately, I got the aux lamp display off a '90
200, put a bulb in the socket and now have a functioning CEL.

NG or NF engine, right? Yup. There's a fuse slot in the top of the fuel pump
relay. When you insert a 10A fuse, the light will blink out the code.
