Not in one specific case.  But I wonder if they're building a knowledge 
base that might one day be used as the foundation for some AI to kill this 
stuff.

The one absolute no- no is never to reply to one of these things.  A few 
years ago I set up a Freeserve account to test this - I put the address on 
a web page and waited.  Sure enough, a day or two later I got a few spams. 
 I replied to each "unsubscribe" address and got over 200 spams during the 
next couple of days.  Don't do it.
