You're fishing blind. See if you can borrow a laparoscopic scope 
from a local surgeon to help you find your way.

Or if your local surgeon declines to lend out his surgery tools so 
that you can explore your gas tank, check with a good plumber. 
Plumbers now have similar tools to allow exploration of blocked or 
damaged pipes.

And they charge about the same rates!

There's an outfit named Drain Remedy that mentioned that they have 
one of these setups...they saved my butt in the past (Sunday 
night, solder wouldn't flow on a fitting, they stepped in to save 
the day...) Maybe they'd show off their tool for you...
