Rothenberg Radio LCD Illumination

Ok back to the Audi content.

I'm about to begin disassembling my instrument cluster to fix the bad bulb at 3k
rpm on the tach. While I'm in there, I'll probably replace all the rest of the bulbs
for good measure.

And I've found another dead bulb: on the Rothenberg head unit, the LCD
illumination has gone dark. The stereo (all 10 speakers) still functions well and
sounds good, and I'm not ready yet financially to do a full system upgrade,
so I'd like to at least try to repair the LCD lights.

Here is a picture of the Rothenberg:

I'm familiar with the procedure for pulling the head unit -- I've done it before to
replace some of the momentary-contact switches in a previous car. What I don't
know is how the LCD gets its illumination, or whether those bulbs are available.
Any BTDTs from the List? It would be nice to be able to see which radio station
I'm tuned into at night.

BTW if anyone is interested in what I did to fix the momentary-contact
pushbuttons, email me and I'll try to find the source I used for the switches. It can be done with a modicum of soldering and basic electronic repair skill, and it
should be in the archives somewhere, but if not I'll look again.

Cheers,
Alex
