Ditto, the pump in my 200 was intermittent. At first the pump decided
to work in an attempt to trick me, but the next day it wouldn't respond
when I jumpered at the relay. I also pulled a line at the fuel
distributor to see if fuel was getting up there; it wasn't. I also made
sure power was getting back to the plug at the pump (once the pump
stopped responding); it was. IIRC there's two hots and two grounds?
One each for the sender and pump?

My 200TQ died and would not start. Checked to see if the fuel pump
was
working by doing what you did at the filter.
I got fuel all over the place and car still would not start. Turned
out to
be the fuel pump. You could have a weak fuel pump like I did.
