The code for the Audi 5000 turbo MC-1 chip is available for free.
If you can burn it yourself, you would only be out the cost of a
blank chip, a socket and the installation of the socket to replace
the stock chip. If you cannot burn it yourself, there are people out
there who will do it for a reasonable price.
See: http://www.homestead.com/Ben_Swann/boostin.html
I recommend the chip oriented modification and not the non-chip methods.
BTW, the "free" software chip is sometimes called a qlcc chip
(quattro list chip club), due to the efforts of several members
of the quattro list to get the code out there.
I have one SJM chip which cost me $400 or more (I do not remember exactly).
I have one qlcc chip which may have cost me in total $100 plus a soft
drink because I had Ben Swann burn the chip for me and a guy at work
did the soldering on my computer for a little money plus a soft drink.
I have swapped the computers with the SJM and qlcc chips back and forth
between my cars and they appear to work the same.
