**** I think the ECU just cranks up the timing till it detects pinging, then
it backs off a bit.
As long as you are within that "window of opportunity" with aligning the
various marks, the computer will be able to dial in the correct timing based
on the ping reports.
Maybe the ECU constructs a memory map of where the timing should be for
various RPMs and load conditions.
Or am I dreaming this up?
