Brett:  I believe you if the stock the "synthetic" is made from is base crude 
with hokus pokus done to it and sold as a synthetic.
Either way, there are "better" oils to use I'm sure..........  :-)

Curiously Castrol is listed as an approved synthetic meeting the AoA and VW 
"oil standard".
Now Castrol is listed first because its 
alphabetically.............................

read further and a "possible" reason for oil sludge; in a 35K car owned by a 
70 year old grandma with a new to her Audi assured vehicle, may be in the 
"cards" in her future.  Nothing says regularly scheduled maintainance more than 
"financial service stamps."
