Fwd: 88 5KTQ Big problems

I really never assumed that a rod might be broken,,, just that the
bearing might have spun. I just rebuilt the engine this summer and
haven't run it yet. I'm just fearful that I did something wrong. But
if you this pressure plate and release bearing may make the rotation
that much more difficult on a car that is fully off of the ground and
nothing holding the wheels..... then there is a light at the end of
the tunnel.
I feel somewhat helpless!
I'm already $11K into this project and can't afford much more. and I
really need to get this running soon before I am buried in 2-3 feet of
snow!!!
Jesper

If a connecting rod is broken a pistion ll not move. You can remove
sparkplugs and put a plastic stick that show if the piston is moving
while you turn the crank with the front crank bolt.

It happens if you race the car or drag it. Never saw a broken lower
botttom end on daily car.

Ask someone to turn the crank and get your ears close to the bell
housing to ear the sound, might be around the presure plate and
release bearing.

Hmmm.... my car is currently off of the ground via jackstands with all
four wheels free to move. would you still consider that to be a
possibility? or could I have spun a bearing on the crank or connecting
rod

Sounds like the release bearing or the level that act to the bearing.
Or a spring on the pressure plate broken.

Engine was not running following rebuild
My efforts over the last month and a half have been to get it started.
I solved a spark problem, figured out I had a fuel problem.... and
while doing a routine turnover to see if it would start the sngine
acted like thew starter died, but after replacing it with a brand new
one, I find that it was not the starter at all, but yet all of a
sudden the crankshaft is difficult to turn over!
I am sad..... it sounds like something major may be wrong. anyone
agree or do I have any hope?
