I never touched the oil pump. I left the block in and only replaced
the rings and bearings and had the head professionally machined as
well. SO, the oil pump should be find. Now note that since the
rebuild, the engine has not started yet.
thoughts?

Just guessing here, but an improperly installed oil pump,
or blocked oil passage, would let the engine start, but as
soon as the rotating bits wiped whatever rebuild lube was
on the internals, then nasty metallic scraping sounds would
begin.

I hope that's not the case.
