We lubed the tops of the cylinders with a combo of lucas and mobil
1..... hand cranked it till it got easier and sucked out the excess
material...... all the noise dissapeared and the major friction has
been eliminated!!!
yay
well..... i am quite relieved
chattering rings it was..... and now it is free enough to turn it over
with the starter.
now to verify my fuel pressure problem (no airleak for sure!!)
thanks all!!!!

If the screech disappears with lubrication of the cylinders my
thought would be that it's simply a matter of chattering rings
(without lube) and that it may well be just fine once oil pressure is
available. If that's the case then perhaps you have nothing along
that line to worry about. Then again, I niver meak mistreaks. ;-)

So if it does alleviate the screeching what might I conclude?
I have honed the cylinders to break the glaze to prepare for the new
rings. so it definately is not the slipperiest of surfaces now that
the lucas prep oil has probably been worked out (I assembled it in
july and haven't started it yet).
your thoughts?
thanks!!!

How about squirting a little oil into each cylinder (through the plug
hole) and seeing if that alleviates the screeching?

Ok all, My buddy and I have pulled the plugs and rotated the crank by
hand,(one cranking, and one listening). As each cylinder reached top
the sound of "dry cylinder screeching came closer through each
corresponding plug hole. I am guessing that it is because of the lack
of lubrication due to a rebuild and excessive turnover without
adequate pressure to get the oil circulating. it doesn't sound like
bearings necessarily. I will continue with my diag. of the engine by
first draining oil, checking for debris in it, and eventually removing
the oil pan and checking the bottom end.
Now after reading this does anyone feel like I may be on to something
with the lack of lube or what???
thanks in advance,
