Stephane,
I haven't done a rallycross on ice, but my experience with the diff
locks on dirt/mud has been that the car will rotate easier with the diffs
locked. When I first started I ran with the diffs locked but as I became
more experienced, I found that I was faster with the diffs unlocked and I
could get the car to rotate by coming into the corner hot and punching
the brakes while simultaneously turning the steering wheel. The weight
transfer is enough to get the rear to hang out. I was too busy with
steering and shifting to monkey with the diff lock switch.
Here in Oregon most of the cars are Subarus. You should be able to spank
most of the WRX's in the PGT class once you have a couple of races under
your belt. It's pretty satisfying to beat cars that are shorter, lighter
and have more HP.
It will be a lot of fun I'm sure!!
