Thinking about getting a Mechanicaly-challened '88 90Q. Need
diagnosis and parts advice.

Whoa, no, no, it's not inside, you can change it,
anthough it is much easier with the motor out of the
way:) I wouldn't worry about the clutch, they
seriously last forever if driven right. I took mine
out at 160k and it didn't look much worse than the
brand new one I had ready to go in. What may get you
is the throwout bearing, it's much more likely to go
than the clutch disk.
I also don't think that yanking the motor is such a
big deal, can easily be done in a weekend if all your
doing is a clutch job. The entire front end of the
car will unbolt easily, no unibody here. It usually
turns into a longer process because of the while your
in there projects if you choose.
I just aquired a 170k mile 80q, and I'm suprised every
time I get in it at how reliable it is, these cars
will run forever with a little TLC.
