Cold Start Wierdness

So, for the last month or so, my car has been really, really hard to start when
it has sat for a few hours. The engine would crank and crank, but it would just
never catch. When it did catch, it would cough and sputter like it was only
running on a few cylinders. After 20-30 seconds, everything would smooth out
and life would be good. Car would start right up after that until it sat again
for several hours.
Was going to do some trouble shooting this weekend, but starting Thursday night,
the car just first right up. I thought it was because the temps warmed up, but
these last few nights have been really cold, and it still starts right up. It's
like there was never anything wrong.
<confused>
What would "just get better"?
I think it's time to name the car Christine.
