Well, whether you need that head gasket or not, I would recommend 
getting a firmer diagnosis on that oil pressure light.  You could, say, 
replace the sending unit with a new or known good used one to test your 
theory.

Remember the reason for that system is to warn you that conditions 
potentially that could hurt your engine exist, not just to warn you that 
the system no longer works.

Also, did they give a "reason" why you need a new head gasket (ie, 
something they measured or tested to determine a problem with it?)
