Intercooler fitment, etc. on possible turbo conversion

Oh man details - I forgot about that.   Don't know if I'd want to do this -
anyway to retorfit these trans with the old style cable actuated arm?  I
suppose I could source a trans from a higher geared car - perhaps an old
5000?  I know that one can change the gears, but I don't consider opening up
trannies to be one of my better proficiencies.
