This all has been a great help BTW - Ben

- Don't think I want close ratio - I think that is what is on the car
already.

- OK - this I believe would be what is needed. What cars did it come on?

gears (60 at 3k in 5th?)

- That is probably too low.

and is still cable operated. I've

Since I am going to install an engine with almost double the horsepower, IMO
the car should get a higher gear ratio. With the power of a chipped and
warmed over MC, it was enough to rev. to 7 grand in a heartbeat and that was
in a 5ktq avant. I couldn't imagine what it will do in the light FWD coupe,
but I think lower gears and close ratio would not be good and higher gearing
similar to that of a 5000 turbo quattro works well. Just need to find
similar gearing with a cable actuated clutch. I know I could fabricate the
hydraulics, but really don't want to go there.

- I'll check this, as I really don't know as it is not my car. What
generally came in the '83 Coupe? How would I tell if different
transmissions were available? maybe the right tranny is already there, but
someone mentioned the probability of needing taller gears, which spawned
this thread of the engine swap questions.

- Yeah, maybe it is more trivial than I'm thinking. I wouldn't be surprised
if I have all this in the back yard.

- As always - this list is the greatest! Ben
