Unknown part on 4kq

I have been wondering for quite some time what the forked shaped things 
are that support my front sway bar.  They seem far too elaborate to just 
be a sway bar support.  Did 4kq cars come with skid pans?  These two 
parts are bolted to the front subframe and protrude forward like forks.  
They definately look like they are supposed to connect to something.  I 
have no lower radiator shrould.  Would this be something to do with that?

Thoughts?
