Radio problem 95 90 sport q

Hi all,  

With 124k miles on the clock, the silly things start going south.  My radio bagan developing an annoying habit of cutting out when I lowered the volume past a certain point.  It would than come back on.  Now, it works less than not but can be coaxed by fiddling with the volume knob.  Anyone else seen such a problem?  Looks like new radio time to me.  Would removing the radio and cleaning the contacts help?  I have had a bad antenna return motor (stuck in up position) for some time could this be playing a part?
