Well said Greg, never more apparent than p/w regs in the Vw line. '82-'92
basically flawless design, 2 wire motor and cable, not oft replaced, and
only 50$ if needed. Then "progress" with the G/J III cars and the 20pin
connectors on the integrated ecu/motor assembly. 400$ from the dealer or
150$ on the used side, and they sell plenty! B4 Passat LR's seem to be the
most prone, must be the earth's rotation! Audi's lock pumps are another
prime example, ever needed one for an 80/90 series? Me neither. But ask any
'92-95 s4/100/a6 owner about dead batteries and alarm systems. The problem
is that it's hard to tell the "improvements" that are going to be
problematic until a couple years into the game.
Ah well, I'd better go, I think I can smell the A8's heated steering wheel
burning :)
