It's probably caused by a broken wire in the driver's door 
jamb. Pull back the rubber boot and looked for broken 
wires and cracked insulation.  (Check the wires along the
hinge in the trunk, too; they cause other problems). Another 
odd-ball place to look for an electrical drain is the rear 
cigarette lighter shorting out.

That could be (at least on the Type 44s) a vent hose for 
the battery.  If not, (now I'm getting out of my league) I 
think the vacuum pump runs the door locks and possibly 
differential lock switch.  If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone 
will correct me.
