Well, my experience is more like squids to apples then, but when I went to
fully programmable EFI on my Miata (still NA at that point) it really woke
it up. The factory calibration was really conservative, so less fuel and
more spark easily net me 8-9 rwhp (don't scoff- that's >10%!) in the upper
rpm range.
It can be a hassle though- some days I wish for the hassle-free cold start
behavior of the factory ECU.
