audi 90 1990

so i went to go check out the car and here is some more specific info i
found out.  it's manual transmission 20v engine.  the car will not start.
the owner seems to think it's a bad head gasket but i'm not so sure.

i checked the overflow coolant tank.  it was empty but there was no oily
residue in the tank but it was dirty.  the dipstick was looked like there
was only oil in it as well.  no evident coolant leaks either.

the guy had pulled the auxiliary radiator(the small one in the very front
right of the car) and when he tried to start it, it would turn over very
slowly with some small clicking noises and the main thing was that smoke
was coming out of the hose coming from the main radiator that attaches to
the auxialiary radiator.  is this a sympotom of a bad head gasket?

otherwise the body was really clean interior dirty but cleanable.

anyone know what might be wrong with the car?  not so sure it's a head
gasket problem.

the owner only wants 600 for the car but if it's a totally blown engine
then i won't even bother.
