Two questions on two cars

On the '91 100, On one car I owned a plugged catalytic converter reduced 
power and limited revs at around 3000 rpm. On an '87 5ktq reported here 
recently, a new set of plug wires, distributor cap and rotor cured rough 
idling and lack of power.

Take your pick.
